Technology

Studying Technology includes the use of a broad range of knowledge, skills, and understanding, and prompts engagement in a wide variety of activities.

Technology subjects are seen as a dynamic, ongoing process involving students. Students design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts and mediums. Students need to acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as Mathematics, Science, Engineering and Art. Students learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens of the community.

Through evaluation of past and present Technology subjects, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. Here at Stockland Green school we use a wide range of media to allow students to fulfil the curriculum in their own creative journey.

The aims of the Stockland Green School Technology curriculum

• Use research and exploration, such as the study of different cultures, to identify and understand users needs.
• Encourage students to identify and solve their own problems and understand how to reformulate problems given to them.
• Develop and communicate design ideas using annotated sketches, oral and digital presentations and computer based tools.
• Select and use specialist tools, techniques, processes and equipment with accuracy and precision.
• Select and use a wide, more complex range of materials, components and ingredients, taking into account their properties.
• Test, evaluate and refine their ideas and products against a specification taking into account the views of intended users and their target audience.
• Understand developments, their impacts on individuals, society and the environment and the responsibilities of designers.
